The importance of personal brand photos and why I’ve finally got round to doing mine

I finally got round to having some personal brand photography done for my websites and social media this month.

This was long overdue.

What seems like years ago, I wrote this blog about the importance of getting out from behind the camera and getting in front of it. (It’s a good one, by the way, make sure to check it out)

It’s all about building a personal brand and there are numerous reasons to do so. For one, it makes you much more memorable than someone who has no photos on their site, and more relatable too. Remember, people are much more likely to remember a face. And people like to work with other people, not faceless businesses.

Don’t take my word for it. Check out the follower counts on Instagram for Richard Branson (4.7M) versus his company Virgin Group (213K). That’s over 20 times more followers for his personal profile.

Despite knowing all this, I still hadn’t got round to having any photos taken of myself until this month. Probably for the same reason you haven’t – because getting in front of the camera can be uncomfortable, especially for those of us who aren’t natural extroverts. Regardless, it’s important so I bit the bullet and finally got it done.

The results were great and a big thanks to my good friend Svetlinski Photography for doing such a great job.

I’ve taken one for the team, now it’s your turn!

If you haven’t had any professional photos taken of yourself in a while, hopefully this will encourage you to do so. If you don’t have any at all, you really need to make this a priority. You’re a photographer after all so there’s no excuse!
